New decision bans importers from repacking, rebranding white cheese

August 3, 2011- The Minister of Agriculture Hussein Hajj Hassan signed a decision regulating the import of white cheese.
According to the Minister’s decision, white cheese importers are prohibited from repacking the products, or giving them new trade names. The decision specified that white cheese imports should acquire an official veterinary health certificate. It said the imported goods should match the standards specified by the Lebanese Standardization Organization (LIBNOR).
The decision said white cheese packs and containers should consist of globally recognized material. It said that white cheese packages and containers should include information about the kind of the product, its production and expiry dates, and the name of the manufacturer.
