LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital has set up a 14-bed emergency room (ER) with a total area of 700 square meters and embedded medical imaging unit and other facilities.
The state-of-the-art ER is among the largest in the country and can accommodate more than 1,000 patients per month, said Saad El Zein, Assistant to the President for Special Projects at the Lebanese American University (LAU).
“This is a fully-integrated ER as all required facilities and equipment are encompassed in it. This is somehow new in Lebanon. Patients, for instance, don’t have to be moved to another place in the hospital in order to get an X-ray,” El Zein said.
The ER includes a lab and a small operating room for emergency operations that require a rapid response. It also comprises negative pressure rooms to isolate patients and prevent the spread of contagious diseases such as the Covid-19 virus. Its medical imaging unit includes a computerized tomography scan (CT-scan), a digital X-ray machine, an ultrasound unit, and a mobile radiography unit.
The new ER is part of a renovation project that started two years ago and that was financed by LAU, El Zein said.
