Less time in court
Law accelerates rulings on civil and trade court proceedings of less than $10,000
Share
The Parliament adopted a new law for accelerating court jurisdictions in lawsuits pertaining to trade and civil matters.
The new law, which is an addition to the 1983 Code of Civil Court, concerns all civil or trade lawsuits of a value not exceeding 30 times the minimum wage (currently around $10,000).
According to the law, the resolution of all court cases under this category should not take more than two months.
The law urges the defendant to respond to the court’s call within a maximum of one week from being served the lawsuit. The judge should then issue the verdict within a maximum of two weeks. If the case required testimonies, the procedures, including remarks of the conflicting parties, must not take more than two weeks. After this the judge should issue his final verdict within one week.
Appeals to the court’s ruling must be submitted within two weeks after the verdict is declared. The Court of Appeals must also observe the said procedures for accelerating the resolution of the verdicts being considered. The ruling issued by the Court of Appeals shall not be contested in any way.
