The Cabinet published a decision regulating the import of potato seeds for the 2011-2012 season. The decision allows the import of potato seeds starting the first of December 2011 till the first of February 2012.
The decision states that potato seeds could be imported from Germany, Holland, France, the UK, Ireland, Scotland, Canada (Prince Edward and New Brunswick provinces), Belgium, Luxemburg, Denmark, or any State that proves its specialization in the production of the goods.
Each bag of imported potato seeds must bear a sticker including information on the class, brand, size, net weight, origin, year of production, and the date of packaging.
Each cargo of potato seeds must have the original phytosanitary certificate (not a copy), and the original certificate from the authorities of the country of origin proving that the produce is compliant with the standards listed in the decision.
The decision prohibits the unloading of the cargo before the results of the laboratorial tests are released.
