Countries and organizations also providing in-kind assistance

A number of countries and international organizations have recently pledged or provided humanitarian aid with a combined value of $383 million in addition to in-kind assistance of unspecified dollar amounts to help people affected by the war.

The United States will provide $157 million in new humanitarian assistance to support people affected by conflict. "This funding will address new and existing needs of internally displaced persons and refugee populations inside Lebanon and the communities that host them. The assistance will also support those fleeing to neighboring Syria," the State Department said.

The United Arab Emirates approved an urgent relief package of $100 million that includes medicines and medical supplies.

In light of the escalation of hostilities last week, the European Union allocated €10 million ($11 million) in humanitarian aid (food assistance, shelter and health care) then an additional €30 million ($33 million). This brings total EU humanitarian assistance this year to more than €104 million ($114.1 million)

The World Bank has also decided to redirect part of $1.5 billion in funds originally earmarked for development programs toward emergency aid for displaced people. “The World Bank is activating emergency response plans to be able to repurpose resources in the portfolio to respond to the urgent needs of people in Lebanon,” the bank said a statement.



The countries and organizations that are providing assistance without specifying the value in money terms include Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iran, Russia, Romania, France, and China in addition to Lebanese emigrants in Brazil, and the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO). The humanitarian aid includes food, medical supplies, and essential supplies like foam mattresses and blankets.

Nine Turkish non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will dispatch a ship carrying around 80 containers loaded with 1,300 tons of humanitarian aid.

Iraq has established a land and air bridge to transport aid and facilitate the delivery of fuels. It is providing food and essential relief supplies, medical supplies, and fuel for hospitals, in addition to medical services in Iraq to the injured. It is also providing free entry visas for new Lebanese arrivals, waiver of penalties for those who have overstayed their visas, and a 30-day renewable visa extension.

Last week, the United Nations and the government launched a $426 million ‘Flash Appeal’ to mobilize urgent resources for civilians affected by the escalating conflict.
