A survey conducted by InfoPro Research (part of the same group of Lebanon Opportunities) has shown that 64 percent of companies have lost an average of 40 percent in revenues in September when compared to August. More than half the companies surveyed said that when compared to September 2023, their revenues have dropped by an average of 56 percent.

The ‘Impact of War – Quick Survey’ was conducted in the past week with more than 100 medium and large companies in the Greater Beirut area. Businesses in the Southern Suburb (Dahieh), South, and Bekaa were not covered by the survey.

The war has forced 26 percent of companies to reduce working hours, and a fifth to start or increase remote work. Less than ten percent of businesses have started reducing pay, and only four percent have let go of employees.

The situation is poised to become worse before the war stops, as more companies have indicated that more pay decreases and layoffs are expected.

The restaurant sector is one of the most affected. Restaurants in the heart of the capital, even in popular areas such as Gemmayzeh and Mar Mikhael have closed or have greatly reduced their opening hours. On the other hand, restaurants located in Antelias, Jounieh, Batroun and the Metn and Kesrewan mountains are compensating and thriving in an otherwise low season. They are absorbing the affluent clientele that have shunned the capital.
