Lebanon ranked in 82nd place among 110 countries around the world on the 2011 Prosperity Index, published by the UK-based Legatum Institute in November.

The survey ranked the country in tenth place among 15 countries in the MENA region. Lebanon came behind Syria and ahead of Egypt.

In the 2010 survey, Lebanon ranked in 84th place globally, and tenth place in the region.

The index uses a broad definition of prosperity to include both material wealth and quality of life.

Lebanon ranked in 58th place globally, in eighth place in the MENA region on the ‘Economy’ sub-index. This category measures a country’s performance in four areas: macroeconomic policies, economic satisfaction and expectations, foundation for growth, and financial sector efficiency.

On the ‘Entrepreneurship & Opportunity’ sub-index, Lebanon ranked in 81st place globally, and in tenth place in MENA.

The country ranked in 94th place globally and in 12th place in MENA on the ‘Governance’ sub-index. This category measures countries' performances in the effective and accountable government, fair elections and political participation, and rule of law.
