Italian Cooperation funds socio-economic development in the South

The Ministry of Agriculture and the National Observatory for Women in Agriculture and Rural Areas (NOWARA) announced the launching of a project promoting the economic and social development of the rural population in South Lebanon.

The project is funded through a joint project between the Italian Cooperation Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari, Italy.

According to data from the Italian Cooperation Office, funds allocated for the project are around $1 million.
The objective of the project is to contribute towards the development of the socio-economic conditions of rural populations in the South through supporting actions by local organizations.

The NOWARA and the Ministry of Agriculture also launched the ‘NOWARA 2012 Award’ for the best pioneer small and medium enterprises developed by women in the Lebanese countryside. The winning projects will each receive non-cash support equivalent to $3,000. The prizes will be used to further develop the winning enterprises.
