A new initiative to promote computer-based learning in Lebanon’s schools was launched on Tuesday (May 15) by the Ministry of Telecommunications. The initiative, dubbed ‘The national tablet initiative for youth’, will allow students to buy tablet PCs at a reduced price through a two-year bank loan at zero percent interest.
The program is supported by the Ministry of Education, the Central Bank, the Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL), and the two mobile operators Touch and Alfa.
The Ministry of Telecommunications launched a tender to purchase 15,000 tablets which are WiFi- and 3G-enabled. The results of the tender will be announced in June.
