Public sector salaries go up

2011 public sector salaries $2.5 billion, 33 percent of primary spending

Treasury expenditures on public sector salaries totaled LL3,817 billion ($2.5 billion) in 2011, according to figures released by the Ministry of Finance.

Salaries, wages, and related benefits, to public sector employees rose by around $300 million in 2011 compared to the previous year. The increase is explained by higher payments to military and security forces (+LL465 billion) and education personnel (+LL40 billion).

Public sector salaries represent the largest component of primary spending, accounting for 33 percent as of end 2011.
