Beirut port sees 3.4 percent rise in container shipping up to May

The Port of Beirut saw a 3.38 percent growth in the total container activity during the first five months of the year, to 426,950 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU).

The port generated $53.65 million in revenues up to April, up by 7.2 percent compared to the same period of 2011. Transshipment activity grew by less than one percent, to 177,314 TEU, while container activity rose by 5.2 percent, to 249,636 TEU. The number of docked vessels dropped 8.3 percent, to 828 vessels.
