Firmamedica, a Beirut-based company is developing a major medical project in Erbil. The company partnered with Kurdish firm, Dabin Group, to develop the Kurdistan Medical City (KMC).
The project includes a general hospital with 250 beds, five specialized hospitals, five buildings for paramedical activities, and a Medical School.
Firmamedica is owned by a number of Lebanese entrepreneurs and chaired by Dr. Amir Abdelnour, former chairman of the medical committee at the Beirut-based Saint George Hospital.
With a total investment of $600 million, the project is divided into four phases. The first phase of the project, which will see the establishment of the general hospital, is expected to be up and running by 2016.
During the first few years the project will require the support of foreign staff, mainly Lebanese. The project is being carried out by several service providers, including Beirut-based Mebex Consultants and St. George hospital, which will be providing medical cooperation through an affiliation with the project owners.
