AUBMC to expand

Facility to host same-day surgery department

AUBMC, the medical center affiliated with the American University of Beirut plans to open its Academic and Clinical Center (ACC), a new facility dedicated to patient care, education, and research.

Construction of the new building will be completed in the second half of 2015. The ACC is 30,000 square meters in area, and will be located in Hamra, at the intersection of Maamari and Abdul Aziz streets.

The ACC will consist of nine stories. It will include educational centers for AUB’s medical students, as well as outpatient clinics, and a floor dedicated for same-day surgery. The building will include five levels of underground parking.

Rana Alley, director of strategic planning and communications at AUBMC said: “The new facility will enhance AUB’s clinical, academic, and research capabilities.” She said the project is part of AUBMC’s vision for 2020, which aims increase the number of beds from 350 to 600. The plan also involves a dedicated building for cancer patients.

According to Alley, ACC will create new job opportunities in administration and nursing. She said AUBMC has already hired 80 doctors over the last three years.
