The Ministry of Energy and Water has launched tenders for the supply and installation of solar panels in public streets. The Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) has determined the technical specifications for companies interested in applying for the tender.
The project, which costs $2 million, will be funded by the amount left over from this year’s subsidy for fuel oil. Ziad Zein, LCEC public relations coordinator said the LCEC will be assessing the competence of the applicant companies through comparing their qualifications to the project’s requirements. Tenders will be finalized by end-January.
Throughout the project, 1,200 solar panels will be installed in a number of towns. “The solar street lighting systems will be installed once municipalities pay their dues to Electricité du Liban (EDL),” said Zein.
