The European Union (EU) allocated a budget of €2 million ($2.7 million) to support women's empowerment initiatives as part of its program ‘Investing in People’. The project will be implemented in cooperation with three NGOs which were selected following a call for proposals in 2012.
The goal of this initiative is to promote the participation of women in the civil, economic, social, and cultural spheres.
The first NGO is the René Mouawad Foundation whose project involves facilitating the access of women in rural areas to available financial services. The foundation works to promote the social and economic wellbeing of women in underserved areas.
The second partner is Cives Mundi, an international foundation that helps Palestinian women in refugee camps. The foundation is working on promoting Palestinian women's access to social and economic resources.
The third partner is the ONAY Association which focuses on the sectors of tourism, hotel management, and micro-entrepreneur networks in the areas of Byblos, Bcharreh, and Batroun. Its proposal aims at helping women generate additional family income and access various financing instruments.
