Police training academy underway in Aramoun
Project funded by US assistance program
Share
A major academy for Internal Security Forces (ISF) will be established in Aramoun. The construction cost of the facility, estimated at $10 million, is funded through a donation from the United States. The project is being executed by local engineering and construction company Lemaco, owned by Abdo Sekarieh. It is expected to be completed by end-2013.
The academy will include a ‘tactical training village’, an academic and forensics training center, an outdoor shooting range, and a vehicle maintenance facility to repair the ISF’s fleet.
The complex will include replicated settings of schools, checkpoints, and residential and commercial buildings to enable scenario-based training to teach investigative techniques, firearms skills, and modern police tactics.
The establishment of the Aramoun Training Academy is part of a $28-million assistance from the United States to the ISF. The assistance also includes the establishment of a nationwide secure radio program to help dispatch ISF officers quickly in emergencies, as well as support for equipment purchases and training programs for ISF units.
