The Ministry of Telecommunications (MoT) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) will launch E-Aman.com, a new website for Internet safety, on April 15.

Hussam Kayyal, Advisor at the MoT, said E-Aman.com is the first step towards setting up a cyber community platform. “We aim at raising awareness among locals on how to be more responsible while using the web, and become conscientious e-citizens,” Kayyal said.

The new website teaches users how to preserve their privacy by deciding what to share, how to interact and use social media, and how to perform safe browsing. “Our strategy addresses the younger generation that uses the Internet most,” he said.

The MoT’s initiative follows earlier projects in this direction, such as the recent plan to provide schools with tablets at affordable prices. Kayyal said the MoT is working to improve its services, slash prices, and increase penetration rates, while at the same time ensuring better protection from cyber criminality and other web-related concerns.
