Taxpayers will soon be able to pay their taxes online through commercial banks, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said.

The e-payment service will allow online tax settlement through two ways: Online transactions through taxpayers' electronic banking accounts, or through the website of the Ministry of Finance (MoF) by credit card.

Joseph Torbey, Chairman of the Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL), said the e-payment enhances transparency and improves the business environment as it facilitates tax payment measures. “Taxpayers would be able to settle their taxes even while they are abroad,” he said.

Banks interested in offering the e-payment service should sign a memorandum of understanding with the MoF. A transit account will be created in each bank to receive the e-payments. At the end of each work day, payments will be transferred to the MoF’s account at the Central Bank.
