Lebanon ranked 72nd out of 185 countries in the UNDP’s 2013 Human Development Index (HDI) report. The country’s human development ratio reached 0.745, compared to 0.728 in 2007. Lebanon ranked fourth among Arab countries, higher than Oman (84), Algeria (93), and Jordan (100) but behind Bahrain (48), Saudi Arabia (57), and Libya (64).
Life expectancy at birth is estimated at 72.8 for 2012. The Gross National Income (GNI) per capital was recorded at a high of $12,300.
According to the latest available data, 53 percent of women and 55.4 percent of men aged 25 and above held at least secondary education degrees. The adult literacy rate reached 89.6 percent for individuals aged 15 and above. Primary school dropout rate reached 8.2 percent between 2002 and 2011.
General government consumption constituted 12.3 percent of the GDP in 2011. Health, education, and military spending had shares of 2.8 percent, 1.8 percent, and 4.2 percent of the GDP respectively.
