Master Chips, a company owned by Daher Foods, recently completed construction of a new factory in Ferzol, Bekaa. But production in this facility has been delayed so far until security conditions in regional markets improve, according to Michel Daher, co-founder of Daher Foods.

About 60 percent of the Master Chips production used to be exported to Syria, Iraq, and Jordan. But the Syrian conflict is constraining these exports. “Expanding our production facilities was meant to answer demand in these markets, but due to the instable situation, we decided to hold production.”

Master Chips processes over 24,000 tons of potato yearly. “The new factory would increase production capacity to 60,000 tons of potatoes per year,” Daher said.

A total of $25 million in investments were required for the new facility, which stretches over an area of 20,000 square meters. When operational, it will create about 800 jobs.

Daher Foods have other expansion plans in Africa. “We aim to open a new factory in Ghana. We conducted a market study there and we found it to be a viable investment,” said Daher. From Ghana, the company will be able to export to the promising Nigerian market.
