Électricité Du Liban (EDL) contingent workers announced an open-ended strike until they secure their rights. They stopped working in all EDL sub-stations and production facilities.
A few weeks ago, the workers had alerted the state to the bad conditions they were facing. They said that they didn’t witness any improvements regarding their requests till now.
Contingent workers demanded payment of their August salary. They asked the institution to commit to paying their wages on time on a monthly basis. They also said the EDL should provide them with insurance coverage, especially for workers in production and sub-stations, and should guarantee their security when working in risky locations.
The workers also called for setting specific working hours, and being included as employees of the EDL.
