Three new governmental hospitals will be established in Tyr, Sarafand, and Karantina. The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will manage the projects and assign contractors.
Funding will be handled by the Islamic Development Bank. An estimated $14 million will be required for the Tyr governmental hospital. The Sarafand and Karantina hospitals will cost around $11 million each, according to a CDR source.
A tender was conducted to assign contractors for the Tyr hospital but the results have not yet been announced. Tenders for Sarafand and Karantina hospitals have not yet been launched.
The construction of the new Tyr hospital is expected to begin early in 2014. It will have a total built-up area of 9,500 square meters and include 75 hospital beds. Works will take around three years for completion.
The Sarafand hospital construction will require around two and a half years. It will have a total built-up area of around 7,000 square meters, and will hold some 40 beds. An old governmental hospital in Karantina was scheduled for rehabilitation. The new Karantina hospital will be built next to the existing one.
