The Ministry of Tourism has issued a circular to motivate hospitality establishments, mainly restaurants and hotels, to serve Lebanese alcoholic drinks and soft beverages along with international ones.
The ministry also insisted on the importance of listing locally made products on the restaurants’ menus.
This approach aims at supporting local products and gives it the support to compete with international brands. It also gives consumers more choices.
Nada Sardouk, Director General at the Ministry of Tourism, said that this gives the ministry the authority to refuse any menu or price list that does not abide by its criteria or guidelines. “Following this new memorandum, we are only encouraging the hospitality establishments to adopt this approach, but we are not mandating them to do so, at this moment.” She said that this could be implemented at a later stage.
