A new sports field has been inaugurated in the al-Mina area of Tripoli. The Ministry of Sports and Youth intends to turn part of it into a center for training and preparation of sports studies.
Yasser Abbouchi, the Minister’s Advisor, said: “The field stretches over an area of 4,000 m2, which includes a basketball and volleyball hall, 1,300 seats, and press and VIP rooms.” According to Abbouchi, studies for this field have been accomplished for more than 40 years.
Investments in the field that were entirely made by the Ministry totaled around $3.3 million. The construction’s main contractor is Rebco.
Additionally, the Ministry has completed studies for two Olympic stadiums in Tripoli and Baalbek. “The stadiums will represent sport cities with pools, courts, and fields to be used for international games,” he said. The Baalbek stadium will cost $24 million, while the Tripoli stadium will cost $80 million, because it requires land reclamation.
Works on the Emile Lahoud Olympic Pool in Dbayeh have also begun and will be completed by 2016.
