The United Kingdom confirmed on January 22 its commitment to supply Lebanon with up to $6.6 million to fund the purchase of 307,000 textbook packages for public school students aged 6-15.

These textbooks will serve needy students among a total of 300,000 Lebanese and 80,000 refugee students, who are enrolled in public schools, in both regular and second-shift programs.

This initiative is an answer to a request made by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and it will be filling the gaps, where there is a need.

The Ministry had relayed to the UK its most pressing needs, which included supplying core textbooks.

Each package will include books covering science, literature, languages, mathematics and other core curricular subjects. The textbooks will be in a mix of English, French and Arabic.
