Global Blue, the company that currently handles tax reimbursement for foreign shoppers, will pursue its tasks for the coming three years.
Last December, the Tender Department of the Central Inspection Bureau had announced a tender to assign the handling of tourist VAT refunds to a new company. The tender was held on March 3, 2014. Companies interested in participating had to present their offers to the Directorate, before March 2.
Joe Yaacoub, Country Manager of Global Blue, said that no company applied for the tender. Accordingly, a renewal contract was reported to them by default.
Global Blue has been handling this operation since 2002. The contract is renewable every three years. In the last tender in 2010, Global Blue also faced no competition, and was awarded the contract by default.
The tax refund company is reimbursed with a defined percentage on the value of transactions it handles at the airport and other borders. Globally, around five companies only are specialized in this kind of work.
