The Ministry of Telecommunication (MoT) sent notices to both telecom operators Orascom Telecom (Alfa) and MTC (Touch) complaining about “unprecedented malfunctioning” of the mobile networks.
 
The MoT gave the operators a short period to restore the service back to the required level, or it will be forced to take them to court and eventually terminate their contracts. 

The MoT urged both operators to employ all their local and international human and technical capabilities to repair the network.

Both mobile operators have refrained from comment.

Youssef Houwayek, Media Consultant to the minister said that the MoT will abide by the contracts signed with the mobile operators. “They could be penalized according to what the contracts say if they keep on breaching the rules,” he said.
