Hawa Chicken, a local poultry production company, is carrying out a major expansion plan in Anfeh-Chekka, to be completed by the end of the year.
The project includes a slaughterhouse, a factory for rendering residues, and another factory for manufacturing dry food for dogs.
Investment in the new facilities will approximately reach $70 million. Antonio Hawa, Sales Manager at Hawa Chicken, said: “The slaughterhouse is expected to double our production capacity to 120,000 chickens per day.”
Production of dry food for dogs will reach ten tons per day. Hawa said: “We will export these products to Arab and international markets.”
The new facilities will stretch over 36,000 square meters of built-up area, divided into three floors, 12,000 m2 each.
Hawa Chicken has its own farms, but it has also signed contracts with private growers to purchase additional animals to reach 550,000 heads weekly.
Hawa said: “Local regulations prohibit poultry companies from exporting chicken, but we will start lobbying for a change in the law especially after increasing the factory’s capacity.”
