Customs authorities have set a clearance mechanism for imported items purchased online by individuals.

The new system exempts from customs all goods under LL200,000 ($133) purchased by individuals, not for commercial use.
 
The measure came in response to bottlenecks at the airport created by such items, sometimes causing delays of more than two months.

Until now, customs and clearance fees sometimes exceeded the value of the purchase price of the items themselves.
