The ministries of tourism and environment have signed a protocol of collaboration to promote eco-tourism, as part of the rural tourism strategy launched earlier.

The protocol includes activating eco-tourism through promoting reserves and the country to foreign nations, through embassies and diplomatic bodies.

The Ministry of Environment (MoE) said that the country today has 15 natural reserves, and aims at doubling this number. The ministry said that it also aims to develop and implement archeological tourism along with festival tourism, and marine tourism, at a later stage.

The protocol will boast eco-friendly and greener hospitality establishments, including hotels, restaurants and resorts. It will introduce instructions about environmental concepts. The ministers of tourism and environment will appoint a delegated employee to follow up and execute this memo. A joint meeting between the ministries will take place once a year to report on the activities and the implementation of this collaboration.
