A new agricultural pesticides factory, Modern Agrochemicals, will be opened in the industrial zone of Zahleh in March 2015.

Izhaya Zouky, General Manager, said: “There is a big shortage of locally manufactured pesticides, so we will be fulfilling this increased demand from the market.” Adonis, an affiliate of Unifert, is the only other local factory that manufactures pesticides.

The investment in the project is $4 million. The built up area is 3,000 square meters. Construction works have been finalized and machines will be installed within weeks. The facility is expected to create around 50 full-time jobs, in the early stages.

Modern Agrochemicals will manufacture 500,000 liters of agricultural medicines such as Deltamethrin, per year.

Zouky requested the assistance of Belgium based Tensiofix, a global agricultural company to produce high quality products that comply with international standards.
