DSL subscribers grew by 100,000

The Ministry of Telecom announced yesterday that the number of DSL subscribers increased by 100,000 from August 2014 till January 2015, bringing the total to 419,800.

Minister of Telecommunications, Boutros Harb said that the increase was due to the addition of 28 new DSL central stations in May 2014, which extended the Internet market capacity to 75,000 new subscribers.

Northern towns that received new stations included: Hardin, Boksmaya, Kfour Al Arbi, Kfarhata, the Cedars, Hamat, Kour, Sourat, and Kfarhabou. Mount Lebanon towns included: Btater, Reshmaya, Abey, two in Kaberchmoun, Kfaramay, Yahchouch, Kartaba, Almat, Bejjeh, Arbaniyeh (Broumana), and Baskinta. Southern towns included: Khiam, Kawsariyat Al Siyad, Marjeyoun, Kawkaba, and Hasbaya. The Bekaa towns of Terbol and in Rashaya, each opened a station.

Harb’s telecom reform plan reduced DSL prices by at least 75 percent.
