Emilens plans a wide product range

Emilens, a factory that produces contact lenses, opened this month in Zouk Mikael. Syrian investor Emil Karayachua owns the factory with his Lebanese partner Samir Moueissati.

Emilens is the first of its kind in the local market. The company has obtained its industrial licenses from the Ministry of Industry and finalized all the paperwork required by the Ministry of Public Health.

“The lens machines are small, they do not require a large space, but they are costly,” said Karayachua. The investment in the project is $500,000, and the size is 50 square meters. All machines required for the factory were imported from the UK and the raw materials will be imported from the UK and Italy.

The factory produces a range of contact lenses, starting from secondary lenses such as Toric and rigid gas permeable (RGP) contacts for weak eyesight of more than ten degrees. The factory will also produce disposable and cosmetic lenses as well as the glass and plastic packaging that hold the lenses.

Karayachua said that the production capacity could reach 500 lenses per day and that his factory has the ability to meet the entire market demand for secondary lenses.
The company aims to export part of its production and has already sent samples to Egypt, Venezuela, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.
