Ahmad Khalaf Al Habtoor Hospital, owned by the Zakat Fund, will open in Hrar Akkar in June 2015. Zoheir Kebbe, General Manager of the Zakat Fund, said: “Providing medical services for the needy in this region is the main reason behind opening this hospital.” It will accept simple cases and provide general medical services, excluding major surgeries like open heart or kidney operations.

The building of the hospital was constructed with a $7 million grant from the Emirati business entrepreneur Ahmad Al Habtoor, son of Khalaf Al Habtoor, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group. The Zakat Fund contributed $1.2 million toward construction expenses, which were handled by RAMCO Trading and Contracting.

The total area reaches 11,000 square meters and the built up area around 3000 square meters. The hospital will be made up of five floors with 54 beds. The hospital will create around 200 jobs, excluding doctors’ positions, they will provide their services through clinics.

The Zakat Fund will hand the hospital’s management to a specific company. Kebbe said that they have received offers from Dr. Rabih Hamad and Dr. Abdallah Karami. They will be choosing the best offer. Companies should abide by the terms of reference set by the Zakat Fund, which is mainly offering services to all patients in this region at low cost.

The Zakat Fund will be a member of the board, which will run the administration.
