Mediterranean Cables, a manufacturer of electrical cables, will expand its factory in Zahrani. Production in the extension will start in early 2016.

The new extension will be dedicated to producing fiber optics for telephone networks. The company will be ready to supply the State with cables required for the 4G Internet networks, said Ahmad Kawtharani, General Manager.

The built-up area of the extension is 3,000 square meters. The investment in this project is estimated at $3 million. The extension will create more than 30 full time jobs.

The production capacity of the facility is 15,000 tons, monthly but the extension will increase this figure by another 100 tons. “This number seems to be small, but this is because fiber optics aren’t heavy,” said Kawtharani.

Mediterranean Cables exports around 50 percent of its production to Arab and African countries.
