The University of Balamand (UoB) will open a medical center in Koura, which will begin operations in 2018.

Salim Habib, Chairman of IBL, said the bank has offered the university a $50 million loan to build and equip the 28,000 square meter hospital.

The hospital will provide all medical services, including a surgical suite, emergency services, a cardiac and pathology laboratory, and outpatient clinics. It will comprise 200 beds as well employee housing for the 350 expected staff.

As a teaching hospital, it will train graduates of the UoB’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

Designing consultant Nabil F. Azar designed the hospital. Contractors have not yet been assigned.
