Road works between Abbasiyeh and Burj el Shemali are expected to be completed by the year’s end. Consolidated Engineering and Trading (CET) is finishing the road as part of the South Highway.
The road stretches at a length of four kilometers, according to Ali Abdel Baqi, Project Director at the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR). He said that the CDR is supervising the works, which include road construction, street lighting, and road traffic safety.
The project is funded by a Treasury advance of $18 million.
The remaining part of the South Highway goes from Burj al Rahhal to Abbasiyeh. “We are preparing the documents to ask for a loan from the Islamic Development Bank to complete the project,” said Abdel Baqi.
The completed parts are Zahrani-Bablieh, Bablieh-Abou el Aswad, Tyr-Naqkoura, and Saida seafront.
