Works on the second phase of the Metn Expressway, linking Roumieh, Ain Saadeh, and Beit Mery were officially launched yesterday.

This main link branches out of the Expressway to serve the villages between Roumieh and Broummana. Its total length is 2.8 kilometers and its width, ten meters. Roumieh Mayor Louis Abu Habib said: “Works will link the highway with the town where all internal streets of Roumieh will benefit from the quick access to it.”

The tender was won by Matta Contracting. The project, valued at $8.5 million, is funded by the Council for Development and Reconstruction, which will also oversee its implementation. Works are expected to take a year and a half to complete, according to Abu Habib.

The mountainous highway is 12 km in length. It links the coastal area of Metn with the town of Baabdat in upper Metn. The project includes the building of 20 bridges and overpasses, and four intersections. The total construction cost of the Metn Expressway was initially estimated at $50 million.
