Excavation works for the Museum of History in downtown Beirut, near Annahar building, have begun.
The Museum is owned by the State through the Ministry of Culture. The Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has financed the museum’s construction with a $30 million grant.
The museum lies on a 9,000 square meter land plot owned by the Municipality of Beirut. It will host artifacts and relics found around Beirut, especially in the Central District.
The project is supervised and managed by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR). International firm Renzo Piano Building Workshop is the project’s architect. Societé Mouawad-Edde is the contractor for shoring and excavation. No contractor for the construction has been appointed at this stage.
