Alfa and Touch contracts extended

The Ministry of Telecommunications said it has extended the contracts of the two telecom operators, Alfa and Touch, which are managing the two mobile phone networks, till the end of February.

Egypt’s Orascom Telecom, Media and Technology (OTMT) manages Alfa , while the Kuwait-based Zain manages Touch network.

The ministry extended the contracts on a monthly basis, after their expiration at the end of 2015 and after it failed to conduct a tender to select new operators. The tender was canceled in December 2015 because it did not meet the fair competition prerequisite, as only two companies had submitted their bids to manage the two mobile networks.
