The Ministry of Industry and the Syndicate of Food Industries has signed with the MENA Food Safety Associations (MEFOSA), a food consulting company, a memorandum of understanding that aims at enhancing the quality of food safety.

MEFOSA assists companies through establishing procedures and practices that ensure quality, healthy, and safe products. It provides consulting, auditing and training services in HACCP, GMPs, hygiene and more.

The MoU will boost cooperation between both parties to improve the quality of food through implementing the modern international food safety laws and regulations that comply with the laws of the World Trade Organization (WTO). It will also help companies take preventive procedures to provide health problems. Mounir Bissat, Secretary General of the Syndicate of Food Industries, said: “MEFOSA will provide technical consultancy to factories, it will advise them as to what materials should be tested and it what laboratories, etc.…”

The cooperation will help create a scientific concept that should be applied by food industrial companies that export to the United States, by using specific methods of taking samples and examining them. Bissat said that in addition to the ISO and HACCP certificates required by the US, the latter is requesting new tests to be conducted, such as the examination of raw materials. “MEFOSA will help factories, to a large extent, in solving such problems and facilitating exports to the US,” he said.
