The head of the Syndicate of Taxi Drivers, Abdel Amir Najdi, called on “taxi drivers and normal citizens to stage protests against the considerable increase in fuel prices.”  He said that words are no longer effective because “the government and the Commission which determines weekly oil prices became are ised on imposing taxes on people.”

The President of the Laborers Party , Maroun Khawli, said that the “substantial” increase in prices of fuel oil is surprising especially that the weekly circular released today,  was signed by the Minister of Water and Power, Gebran Bassil who promised, “when he first came to office, to liberalize gasoline prices and exempt them from the VAT tax.”

Khawli called on the government to "reduce the tax on gasoline immediately, and without any delay.”
He said that “middle income people are enduring a double oil bill, in the absence of well-organized public transport networks and ongoing traffic jam crisis.”
