The agreement includes exchanging news between the two state-owned, news agencies, as well as exchanging experiences, photos, and professional training.
The draft is immediately effective and extends for one year. Laura Sleiman, NNA Director General, stressed the importance of the role of state-run news agencies. She said that 90 percent of newspapers in Lebanon depend on NNA as their news source. "Although press freedom could be harmful in many cases, accuracy and objectivity are the best ways to report news," she said.
NNA, lies under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Information. It has signed similar agreements with the Algerian and Cypriot news agencies, and provides free of charge news on its website. It has updated its services, offering news in Arabic, English and French.
