Government complex is under construction in town of Chehim
Share
The construction of a governmental complex in the town of Chehim has begun.
Consulting firm Khatib & Alami is the advisory firm and the contractor is Establishment Nazih Braidy.
The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) is overseeing the project’s execution, which is expected to be complete in two and a half years at a cost of $15 million.
Zaidan al-Saghir, Mayor of Chehim, said that the complex will include offices for the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Social Affairs, National Social Security Fund, and Cooperative of Government Employees. A police station, a National Security office, and a religious court will also be part of the project.
“This project will save a lot of trouble, time, and money for the residents of the entire Iklim area, because they can now finish their transactions at a nearby town instead of going all the way to Beirut,” he said.
The complex is expected to host in the future other offices for the Urban Development Department, Ministry of Finance, and Central Bank.
The complex is being built on a 5,000 square meter land plot, which a hospital used to occupy. Al-Saghir said: “The decision to demolish the hospital and start the complex was taken since 2001, but the project has just broken ground.”
“This project will generate new jobs and turn Chehim into a city,” he said.
