Car sales drop four percent in Q1-10

Total number of Japanese cars sold until March reached 2,167 vehicles, down 26 percent compared to the same period in 2009. The largest drop in the sales volume of Japanese cars was registered in the month of February with sales volume dropping 32 percent to 1,341 cars.
Sales volume of Japanese car models- Toyota and Astoun Martin recorded the largest drop in for the period plummeting by 58 and 66 percent respectively. On the contrary, sales of Mitsubishi and Daihatsu car brands were up 325 and 219 percent respectively.
Sales of new Korean and Chinese car brands rose 66 and 522 percent to 1,770 and 56 cars respectively in the first three months of 2010. Total number of Korean- Hyundai cars sold, reached 606 until the end of March, a 71 percent increase compared to last year, and sales of KIA cars were up 65 percent to 1,163. Chinese car brand-Chery was sold for the first time in the local car market this year; 46 new Chery cars were sold until March compared to zero last year.
Ranking of car dealers has witnessed some changes with NATCO advancing to the first position with a17 percent of the market beating Rasamny Younis Motor for the first time in years, which came in second place with a 16 percent market share. Century Motor Company was the third largest dealer catching a 9.6 percent market share.
