Electricity generation barge, Esra Sultan, has arrived at Jiyeh. It will provide 200 Megawatts (MW).
The government said that the ship will operate free of charge for three months. The power it generates will be equivalent to two hours of electricity.
The barge was brought in by Turkish firm Karpowership. It has not been linked to the Jiyeh power plant.
Two Karpowership barges – Fatmagul Sultan and Orhan Bey – are already linked to power plants in Zouk and Jiyeh. Each barge provides 203 MW.
The third barge is part of a Cabinet decision that extended the contract of the two existing power ships for three more years at a cost of 4.95 cents per kilowatt hour.
Esra Sultan will leave when the three months are over, according to Ralph Faisal, General Manager of Dyar for Trading and Contracting, local representative of the company.
