ID application goes digital
Share
Application for identity cards (IDs) will be digitized through electronic fingerprints as of 31 January, according to a circular published by the directorate of civil affairs (Officially called General Directorate of personal Status – DGPS). It is part of a process of digitizing all DGPS records.
Citizens 15 years and older, from now on, will have to apply for IDs at the DGPS’ branches. Their electronic fingerprints will be scanned, and will replace the traditional inked fingerprinting at the ‘mokhtar’. Application for IDs for people younger than 15 years is possible in the DGPS’ branches or at mokhtars’ offices.
Applications dated before 31 January will continue to proceed normally.
