The Ministry of Finance has launched a project to modernize the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre (GDLRC).
The project consists of linking Cadastral offices to notaries public, to spare citizens the need to register property twice. “For people who will register property at the notary public, it will be as if they did so in our offices,” said Georges Maarawi, Director General.
Many individuals register property at the notary public but delay registration at cadastral offices to avoid paying taxes. This move will help detect and track the timing of actual property sale.
The project’s other objectives include the modernization of related regulations, the modernization of the GDLRC’s organigram, and the implementation of big data analytics.
“The decisions that will be updated include Decisions No. 188 and 189, which established the directory and give directives on how to register property rights,” Maarawi said.
The project is funded by the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) with a grant of €1.2 million.
