Beirut ranked third best
nightlife city in the world
Seventh listing on
‘100 best places on Earth for 2020’

Beirut has been ranked the third among the top five nightlife cities worldwide, according to the American channel television CNN. It was also the seventh listing on the ‘100 best places on Earth for 2020’.
Alongside nightlife destinations, the ranking system, published in The Rough Guide to the 100 Best Places on Earth, celebrated destinations, cities and countries rich in culture, including the Alhambra in Spain, natural beauty, such as America’s Yellowstone National Park, and engaging urban environments, such as Tokyo in Japan. The Rough Guide contains “brilliant places for 2020, places that would be big news in 2020, just opened up, up and coming, back on the tourist map and places that are completely unmissable and timeless," said the book’s editor Helen Fanthorpe. Alongside more famous destinations, the book includes remote spots such as Easter Island and the Ghenghis Khan Equestrian Statue in Mongolia.
The world’s best nightlife cities were selected according to three criteria: being an entertaining city, providing recreational options, and offering exceptional and diversified services for their visitors.
Beirut Waterfront’s clubs and rooftop bars are the city's most popular party destination. Gemmayzeh and Mar Mikhael are also well-renowned streets for lovers of nightlife, as well as Hamra Street, which is popular for its pubs, street cafes and bars. “In a world where over tourism is becoming more of a problem and where adventurous travelers are seeking out the most interesting places to eat, shop and gallery hop, that just makes Beirut even cooler,” said Fanthorpe. Fanthorpe went a step further in her recommendation, when she added Beirut to her personal ‘bucket list’ of cities she hopes to visit in the near future.
Bangkok was ranked as the best nightlife city worldwide, followed by Barcelona. Beirut was followed by Berlin, and Cape Town.
The Rough Guide to the 100 Best Places on Earth book was published on September 1 in the United Kingdom and will release October 1 in America.
