The United Arab Emirates has lifted a travel ban warning its citizens against traveling to Lebanon. The lifting of the ban was announced by Prime Minister Saad Hariri during his visit to Abu Dhabi and following his meeting with Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and other senior officials.

“UAE is keen on supporting its relationships with Lebanon on different levels, and stands by it in all that preserves its security and stability,” said Al-Nahyan.

Saudi Arabia lifted a travel warning for its citizens earlier this year.

Four years ago, UAE and Saudi Arabia advised their citizens against traveling to Lebanon, and urged those already in the country to leave.

Tourism officials welcomed the news.

“The announcement is vital for the tourism sector in all its segments, including hotels, restaurants, and car rentals,” said Pierre Achkar, Chairman of the Lebanese Federation of Tourism.

“Emiratis will be encouraged to come back for long stays, and to invest in the hospitality sector. Emirati investors have success stories in the country,” Achkar said. More than 25,000 Emiratis visited the country in 2008, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Last year the UAE accounted for only 1,800 visitors.

Achkar said that local officials have to contribute to creating an attractive environment for Gulf tourists and investors through creating economic and political stability.
